This article showcases the civilian general aviation aircraft that attended the TAVAS Great War Flying Display 2018 airshow. On the weekend of 21st and 22nd of April 2019 The Australian Vintage Aviation Society (TAVAS) staged an airshow event, primarily to remember the day 100 years ago when the Red Baron Manfred von Richthofen was shot down and killed by allied troops. In part six of a six-part series of articles covering the airshow, I will showcase the civilian aircraft that attended the show but did not participate in airshow displays. Civilian aircraft that performed in displays are covered in other articles in this six-part series (links below).
Series Articles
American Champion Citrabrias
A pair of American Champion aircraft operated by Sky-Ads of Caboolture airport took to the sky and performed a display of how they pick up and drop their towed ad banners. Their aircraft were 7GCAA Citrabria VH-IML (in green) and 8GCBC Scout VH-CFZ (in red). Unfortunately I missed the banner display so no photos of that action.
Van's Aircraft
I captured five separate Van’s Aircraft machines at the show. They were a combination of taildraggers and tricycle undercarriage (with the “A” suffix on the model number) types. The actual models were RV-6A, RV-7, RV-7A, RV-8 and RV-14A. All very nicely presented, great little sports aircraft that have good power and their owners always look happy flying them.
Cirrus SR22
A lovely Cirrus SR22 VH-FBT was in attendance, looking very nice in an orange and white livery. Powered by a 310hp Continental engine, the SR22 is equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) for safe descent in the event of engine failure.
Cessnas
Of course there would be some Cessna aircraft in attendance. I captured shots of Redcliffe Aero Club’s 182T Skylane VH-ROC and privately-owned 172M Skyhawk VH-WXX in action.
Robinson R44 Raven
Dash Helicopters from Brisbane had one of their fleet, a nice blue R44 Raven VH-ZWT at the show. It was kept busy all day taking paying customers for joy flights around the local area.
Beechcraft G36 Bonanza
I This nice Beechcraft G36 Bonanza flew in for the day. Powered by a 300hp Continental engine, the G36 seats six in comfort – a very nice way to travel I’m sure.
Aeromot AMT-200 Super Ximango
As I was leaving the show this Aeromot AMT-200 Super Ximango powered glider VH-XNO took off and slowly powered away to the east. That is quite some wingspan, and I wager a lot of fun to own and fly.
